Last year, the UK’s battery storage market grew it’s operational capacity by 45%. That’s a huge jump from the previous year, and things are continuing that way in 2026, with home storage units now becoming much more mainstream.

Battery Storage is on the rise, and so more people are trying to find the best one of them, and their home. 

At Sunbright Energy, we’ve installed hundreds of Solar Batteries in the south-east over the last 10 years. In that time we’ve seen what works best, what saves homeowners the most, and what the most reliable solar batteries are.

1. Fox ESS

Fox ESS are a fantastic solar battery brand based in China, who were established in 2019, and have been serving the UK ever since. They have a wide range of scalable batteries such as the Fox EP Series, the Evo Series, the EQ Series and the Power Q Series.

Pros

• Scalable from 2.3kW to 10.4kW modules 
• Units can be combined and scaled up to 45kWh of storage
• Space efficient – stack is only 1.2 Metres tall for 45kW of storage
• Affordable to upgrades as different modules can stacked together

Fox ESS may be the best solar battery brand for you if you’re looking for maximum flexibility, and cost efficiency. They’ve got a wide range of batteries that can be easily scaled in future. Different Fox Batteries can be intertwined with each other, making it more affordable to add extra batteries compared to some others on our list.

Cons

• More technical to install than some plug-and-play-models

Stacking batteries does often make for a slightly more technical installation. However, at Sunbright Energy we’ve been pairing Fox ESS battery stacks with solar panels since they were created in 2019.

Sunbright Energy are also recognised by Fox ESS as Approved Partners, meaning we’re recognised as one of the highest quality installers in the country. In fact, as of April 2026, we’re the only Fox ESS Approved Partner in Kent!

2. Anker

Anker are a much newer battery on the market, but one that is fast growing in popularity thanks to their sleek design and expandability.

Pros

• New to market, growing popularity
• Their single phase options range from 3.68kW to 6kW 
• Stackable design

Their stackable design and smart looking design make them a great alternative to Fox. They’re another great option if expanding your system in future is one of your priorities.

Cons

• Only one stackable battery available 
• A stack of 15kW is over 2 metres tall, so you’ll need additional floor space for more storage

Whilst the solar battery is expandable, you’ll need a fair amount of floor space if you want a significant amount of battery storage. One stack of 15kW is over 2 metres high, and so the solar battery isn’t as compact as alternatives.

3. SigEnergy

SigEnergy delivers not only great battery storage, but also Inverters, EV Chargers, monitoring and more. Their batteries have a high storage potential, enabling for big savings.

Pros

• Expandable up to 60kW on single phase
• High storage potential for domestic use

SigEnergy batteries are notorious for their high storage capacity. Their solar batteries are expandable up to 60kW, which is incredible if your home is a high energy user. We often recommend SigEnergy batteries for large family homes, or those with big energy requirements.

Cons

• Only two battery types (8kW or 10kW)
• No mixing module sizes

The only drawback with SigEnergy is that their flexibility is limited. They’ve only got two battery types, which is much less than some others. Additionally, whatever you start with, you’ll have to stick with. SigEnergy batteries don’t allow for cross-module expansion, meaning you’re somewhat limiting your future options.

4. Powervault

Powervault are a great up and coming UK battery provider, who incorporate AI into their design.

Pros

• Solid UK brand 
• Use AI to automate charging/discharging 
• Great value for money

Powervault is an affordable battery that uses AI in its design, enabling efficient use of the solar energy your panels generate. Through its AI powered ‘SMARTSTOR’ software, Powervault learns to predict how much energy you’ll need, and automatically balances between using solar and grid energy based on your usage patterns.

Powervault is great if you’re looking to be as efficient as possible with your energy, at a relatively low cost. Sunbright Energy is one of few approved Powervault Installers in the UK!

Sunbright Energy are Powervault Approved Installers, meaning we’re trained and approved to install Powervault batteries to the highest standard.

Cons

• Lower storage capacity 
• Lots of room needed to expand

Whilst the Powervault is an efficient battery, it’s not quite as expandable as other batteries on the market. It’s capacity ranges from 5kW up to 20kW when fully expanded, meaning if you’re a high energy user, another solar battery may be optimal for you.

5. Tesla

Tesla is one of the more well-known battery brands out there. They’re well established and have a very high capacity per battery.

Pros

• Integrated solar inverter 
• Trusted brand 
• 13.5kW continuous power 
• Storm Watch function

Tesla’s Powerwall 3 was one of the first on the market to include a fully integrated solar inverter. This enables for a much simpler installation, as there’s no need for a separate inverter. This also makes for a tidy looking finish. Not only that, but the Powerwall 3 also has a ‘Storm Watch’ function. The battery can anticipate upcoming extreme weather events, and charge the battery in preparation. This helps keep your home powered in the event of a power cut, which isn’t available with most batteries.

Tesla Powerwall 3 is great if you’re looking for a recognisable, trusted name, and a high power battery will keep your home running, whatever the weather.

Cons

• Expensive to expand 
• Old models are not compatible with Powerwall 1 and 2

Powerwall 3’s biggest pro is a double-edged, sword. Yes having an integrated solar inverter is more efficient, but that comes at a price. So if you want to expand with more batteries, you’re looking at a fairly expensive upgrade.

Not only that, but the new Powerwall models aren’t compatible with previous ones, meaning again, you’re limited in how big you can expand your system

Fox takes the crown as the best solar battery for us at Sunbright Energy. Its expandability and future proofing make it a fantastic option for most homes with solar panels. We’ve found it’s Fox that has maximised our customers long term savings and solar self-consumption. 

However, if there’s one thing we know at Sunbright Energy from our decade in the industry, it’s that no two homes are the same. Every home has different energy needs, different system sizes and roof spaces, so we’d never recommend a one size fits all option. 

If you’re looking for brand recognition and a clean look, Tesla might appeal – but with limitations on cost and scalability. Or if you’re a large energy user, SigEnergy could be a great choice.
