Recently, the Sunbright Energy team completed a solar and battery installation for a homeowner in Kingston Upon Thames (KT5).
The project combined a 6kW solar array with Fox ESS Battery Storage, allowing the homeowner to generate, store, and use more of their own electricity throughout the day and into the evening.
For properties with higher-than-average electricity consumption, systems like this can make a meaningful difference to both energy bills and long-term energy independence.
In this case study, we’ll take a closer look at the installation, expected performance, and the financial benefits the homeowner can expect over the coming years.

This system was specifically designed to help a household with relatively high electricity usage maximise self-consumption while reducing the amount of energy imported from the grid.
The Solar & Battery System
Eurener Nexa 500W Bifacial Solar Panels
The installation features 12x Eurener Nexa 500W TOPCon All Black Bifacial Mono panels, delivering a total system size of 6kW.
These premium panels were selected for their:
- High efficiency
- Strong performance in varying conditions
- Modern all-black appearance
- Bifacial technology, which can help capture additional reflected light
Together, the array is expected to generate approximately 5,189kWh of clean electricity every year.
For many homeowners, that’s enough to offset a significant proportion of annual electricity consumption.
Fox ESS H1 G2 Hybrid Inverter
The system uses a Fox ESS H1 G2 6.0kW Hybrid Inverter.
The inverter is responsible for converting the electricity generated by the solar panels into usable electricity for the home while also managing battery charging and discharging.
As a hybrid inverter, it allows the solar panels and battery storage system to work together seamlessly, ensuring energy is used as efficiently as possible.
Fox ESS EP12 Battery Storage
To maximise self-consumption, the homeowner chose a Fox ESS EP12 battery.
With 11.5kWh of storage capacity, the EP12 allows excess solar energy generated during the day to be stored and used later when solar production falls.
This helps the homeowner:
- Reduce electricity imports
- Increase self-sufficiency
- Make greater use of their solar generation
- Take advantage of off-peak energy tariffs
Expected Energy Performance
The system is expected to generate around 5,189kWh of electricity each year.
That energy will be used in several different ways throughout the property.
Approximately 2,785kWh of generated electricity is expected to be used directly within the home as it is produced. A further 1,050kWh of solar generation is expected to be stored within the battery system before being used later.
However, because the battery can also be charged strategically using lower-cost off-peak electricity, it is expected to provide approximately 4,200kWh of energy to the property over the course of a year.
Around 1,288kWh is expected to be exported back to the grid, generating additional income through export payments.
Projected Energy Bill Savings
One of the biggest motivations for investing in solar and battery storage is reducing energy costs.
Before the installation, the property’s annual electricity costs were estimated at approximately:
£3,087 per year
Following the installation, those costs are expected to fall to:
£1,810 per year
That’s a projected saving of:
£1,277 per year
through solar generation and battery storage alone.
Solar savings are different for each property depending on a variety of factors.

Additional Savings Through Smart Battery Management
Battery storage offers another major advantage beyond simply storing solar energy.
By charging the battery during lower-cost overnight periods and using that electricity when prices are higher, homeowners can unlock additional savings through tariff optimisation.
For this project, the estimated additional savings are:
Up to £618 per year
When combined with solar generation and export income, the homeowner’s effective electricity costs could fall to:
£1,144 per year
This demonstrates why battery storage has become such an important part of modern solar installations.
Environmental Impact
The benefits of solar energy extend beyond financial savings.
This system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately:
1,061kg of CO₂ every year
To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to:
- Driving around 3,788 fewer miles in a typical car
- The annual carbon absorption of approximately 49 trees
For homeowners looking to reduce their environmental impact while lowering their energy bills, solar and battery storage can provide a powerful combination.
Why Battery Storage Makes Such a Difference
One of the most important aspects of this project is the inclusion of battery storage.
It allows the homeowner to keep more of the electricity they generate, increasing self-consumption and reducing the need to purchase electricity at peak rates.
In this case, the Fox ESS EP12 battery also provides additional flexibility by allowing the homeowner to benefit from lower-cost overnight electricity tariffs.
At Sunbright Energy, Fox ESS remains one of our preferred battery and inverter manufacturers because of the combination of performance, flexibility, and value they offer homeowners.
As the only Fox ESS Approved Partner in Kent, we’re able to design and install systems that make the most of the Fox ecosystem while tailoring the solution to each property’s needs.

How much electricity can a 6kW solar system generate?
A well-positioned 6kW solar system can typically generate around 5,000–6,000kWh per year, depending on roof orientation, shading, and location.
Is an 11.5kWh battery enough for a family home in Kingston Upon Thames?
For many households in Kingston Upon Thames, an 11.5kWh battery provides enough storage to cover evening and overnight electricity usage. The right size depends on your energy consumption patterns.
How much can solar panels save on energy bills?
Savings vary depending on electricity usage, system size, battery storage, and tariff selection. However, many homeowners can reduce their annual energy costs significantly by combining solar with battery storage.
What are bifacial solar panels?
Bifacial solar panels are designed to capture sunlight from both the front and rear of the panel, helping improve overall energy generation in suitable conditions.
Is battery storage worth it in Kingston Upon Thames?
For many homeowners, yes. Battery storage increases self-consumption, reduces grid reliance, and allows households to take advantage of lower-cost electricity tariffs in the Kingston Upon Thames area.
